Cabin Update ~
Perhaps you have heard that the cabin has now become our home; thus the 'rental' cabin is on hold while we live in the cabin. We know we won't live in the cabin forever but for now it is our home as we have moved to McCall and will work to sell our other home before searching in the area here and then deciding what to do with the cabin. So that's the story. New jobs and a new home address - the cabin - for us!

"Renting" the Cabin ~
So, hopefully you have heard that we had a pipe burst in December 2013, causing almost $100K of damage. Needless to say, the interior is pretty much brand new. Some have asked if maybe in the end it feels like a blessing now. Yes and No. It was a bit of a inconvenience and some extra work. Insurance is a pain in the neck to deal with. We will always treasure what it was (pre-flood). But, yeah, newness and some adjustments were never going to happen on our own, so in that aspect, it was remodeled to a pretty up-to-date cabin now! The biggest down side of it all is our insurance and our need to protect it and our guests (in the event we ever have an incident like this again - or any incident). It's not very promising when your insurance agent says, 'so, if you ever have a claim this big again, we probably won't insure you anymore'!
Friends/Family Only:
So, to ensure we are protected, and our guests, we have had to pick up extra insurance. For this reason, we needed to charge anyone who stays overnight that fee. We struggled to decide what to do here, but recognizing we are not an 'open' rental to just anyone; but merely going to allow friends only to use it/pay the insurance fee only. If you don't know this site or us; you won't know about our secret paradise in the mountains/ thus can't 'rent' it.

To Book:
- Check the calendar below for availability (we aren't using a company to book as that would cost us more - so just know we will do our best to keep this calendar up to date).
- Email/Text us to reserve/pay.
- You can leave a check in the cabin during your stay, drop it off or mail it to us.
- We are not yet doing a cleaning fee. You simply have to clean on your own (sorry). A cleaning company charges $175 per time; thus rent would have to go up that much and we think our friends are cheap so we chose to keep it cheapest!
Friends/Family Rates:
- $50.00 per night (8 people max)
- People we don't know rate: Not an option! :)
We hope you understand the situation we are now in and hope you can appreciate a $50.00 per night 'deal' if it works for you or your family!

McCall Cabin Notes for Guests
ADDRESS & KEY:
Address: ***
Key: Lock box is on the side of the garage. Code to get the key is ***. Once you open the front door, put
the key back in the lockbox as you won’t need it until you leave again.
It's typically super quiet neighborhood. Nice neighbors.
UPON ARRIVAL:
- Leave heat ON year round on 58. It most often won’t kick on unless you turn the heat up.
- The water is turned off. Use the guest bedroom crawl space and reach down or jump down in crawl space to turn water on. Headlamps are either in the baskets on the guest room shelves or in a bike basket. Turn on the water knobs behind the washer and the dryer as well once main water is turned on.
- Patio furniture is all stored for the winter. You can dig for things in the garage or back storage shed (just make sure you reslam the door shut).
Heating/Fan tip: it works well to use fireplace and then switch one furnace switch to fan and move the
fireplace heat throughout the house. If not using fireplace, just turn heat up as need be.
Fireplace: Lighter is in kitchen junk drawer or in tub of firewood. There is a small ash bucket in the
garage to scoop out excess ashes and leave in the bucket outside next to the garage. We order wood once
per year in July so it may or may not be available depending on time of the year. We try not to burn the
good, paid for wood in the outdoor fire pit.
Sump Pumps: Please check/listen for the 1 sump pump outside by the garage (you can usually hear water
running). The breaker does trip and need to be reset on occasion. If you open the cover and it’s not
working (full of water), call us to see what to do to get it going. The crawl space will have water in it if it’s
not working properly (access crawl space via guest bedroom, headlamps to see are in a basket in the guest
room closet).
Water heater is on and can be left on. Water can be left on during the summer. If you wanted to turn it off,
it is underneath crawl space.
TV works for basic channel 7 or PBS. No radio, no wifi (sometimes we can pick up a freebie in
neighborhood), cell phones work fine most of the time, unless it’s a busy weekend. DVD player just needs
to be plugged into the cord tucked behind the TV. Cords to hook it up are tucked behind TV.
Single Stall Attached Garage: Has to be opened from inside only and it often smells. We leave it open a
lot to air it out when we are in the cabin. There is a heater in there if you need to warm it up for something.
Pets: McCall is a pretty pet friendly community. Cabin is pet OK as we had one for years just clean up
after them please. Neighborhood has never been an issue for roaming pets.
Food/Kitchen: Dishes, cookware, and most basic food ingredients are there. If you are cooking anything
fancy, take your own or shop at one of the local thrift stores for a deal. If you use something of ours, please
replace it.
Short Cut to Town: If walking or on bikes, we put out our bridge over the back canal and walk/run/bike to
town (.5 mile). Just be sure to pull it off canal at the end of your day or visit or the City will remove it.
Other Cabin stuff to use: 2 adult bikes, 2 kid bikes, snowshoes (2 adult sets/2 kid sets), skis (4 adult sets/3 kids sets/snowboard), shovels for
snow, kid ice skates (2 pairs), 3 basic sleds, 2 kid sleeping bags, queen size air bed, toiletries, TV, Blue Ray DVD
player, some games & movies & puzzles, random little kid toys, some cleaning supplies, vacuum, blankets,
sheet sets, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, crockpot, griddle, towels, rags, washcloths. The inflatable
kayak and paddleboards cost a lot! If you dare to use them, please ensure care is taken and if you damage
em, you get to replace em. Do not set things on top of the paddleboards in the garage.
Washer/Dryer: There is a new washer/dryer available inside. HE soap only. Only run it when you’re
home. Water is to be turned off when you leave and arrive for your stay.
Tips/Tricks:
Garage Door has an electric opener but the light switch in garage has to be on to use it and the remote
doesn’t work. We use the pull string light for a light or simply open the garage and leave it much of the
time. The bottom sensors don’t work so to close the door you may have to hold down the button for a few
seconds to close it all the way.
Other Things:
- A new Bissell Shampooer is in the garage in the box if you spill anything.
- Use dishwasher when you are home only.
- The garage refrigerator shelves are missing some supports so put items on the carefully or the top shelf will fall!
- Dining Room table expands to seat 8-9 (leaf is stored in the table...just open it up)
- This place is a work in progress. We have many things left to tinker with and fix. Please come back again and again so you can enjoy the updates or fix it if it’s driving you nuts.
- Some of our favorite things to do: Salmon River Brewery (opens at 4 daily); Crusty’s Pizza (opens at 5 daily); 3rd St. Bar & Grill for burgers; Sushi Bar, Bistro 45 Wine Bar (bocce ball); Shuffle board at Yacht Club (night event) The Anchor at the Yacht Club; walks to the beach or Farmer’s Market (Wednesdays or Saturdays); walks downtown; bike rides and runs on bike path or on the golf course in the winter; Davis Beach; The Cliffs or Tamarack Bay (for dogs to play fetch); Ponderosa State Park (drive or bike to park, then hike to summit - $5.00 parking fee); Brundage Mountain; Hot Springs (Gold Fork, Beurodorf (summer only), or Zims); Golf Courses; Lunch at McCall Golf Course, Shorelodge, or Jug Mountain Ranch; Coffee at The Hub; Urban Elevation (small clothing shop Val loves),Thrift & Consignment Stores; drives up to Little Payette Lake or Boulder Lake, and more! Lots of visitors to McCall stop at My Fathers Place (burgers, malts), and Toll House Pizza (great salad bar).
WHAT TO PACK:
- Firewood (if you have any)
- Your own clothes (often warm ones, hats, gloves, coats, slippers)
- Couch blankets for daily naps
- Food (we usually meal plan and just take up the main stuff we’ll need)
- Drinks (the cold beverage frig is typically the garage or a snow bank) ~ Faucet water is cold and amazing in McCall!
- Towels (only if you don’t want to launder everything)
- Sheets/Pillow Cases (1 queen bed Master; 1 full & 2 twins in Guest Room; 2 twins in Kids Room)+ a queen air bed under bunk beds (again only if you don't want to launder everything)
- Recreational items: bikes, ski gear, hiking gear, swimwear for hot springs, beach stuff, snow gear
- Phone chargers, iPads/laptops if you go to coffee house for WIFI (no WIFI at cabin)
- DVD’s if you want something good or go to a local movie store for one
HOW TO LEAVE CABIN:
- Pack up or Make up all beds with clean bedding (if you use ours, please launder them and remake the beds before you leave) OR there is a laundry mat in town at Old Towne Gas Station (take quarters and laundry soap)
- Take home your personal belongings or you’ll have to come back to visit to get them!
- Vacuum all carpet and wood floor, then Shark the floor
- Wipe down/Clean bathroom, floors
- Wash all the dishes or start the dishwasher (you can leave clean ones in there if it’s drying)
- Take garbage to black can (Take black can to curb if prior to the 2nd Tuesday of each month). Garbage bags in bottom kitchen cabinet under sink.
- Take recycling to free recycling center (across from Post Office on Deinhard Ln)
- Open up cupboard doors in bathroom and under sink to keep pipes warmer (winter only)
- Leave heat at 58 and be sure ‘heat’ is ON
- Sign the guest book and send us a picture of you enjoying McCall
- Lock windows, back door (be sure it’s shut tight, deadbolt – it’s tricky), front door, and be sure garage is shut. Put key outside in lock box (***)
- Blinds can stay open. Front outside sensor light can stay on and back garage door sensor light can stay on.
- Bring in all patio cushions/umbrella to garage/shed. Water any trees/bushes that look like they need it.
- If you put the bridge over the canal, pull it back off (or the City of McCall will take it away).
- Turn off main water valve after dishwasher cycle runs and laundry is done. Turn off behind washer.
- If you haven’t paid your insurance fee to stay, please leave it on the counter for us or mail it.
Have fun and hope you feel at home!
